Opened in 1993, Romeo's was originally a Chuy's-Comida Deluxe concept. Built on the idea of offering quality Italian food in an area of Austin quickly becoming known as Restaurant Rox.
In 1996, the restaurant was purchased by Jas and Kristine Lemert. They would own Romeo's the following eight years.
After an attempt at opening a location on busy Burnet Rd. and seeing sales plummet during an involved construction on Barton Springs, Jas and Kristine decided to sell.
Restaurant executives Bernhard Brozek and Tara Riley formed a partnership with investors Steve and Judy Patrick & Gary and Lisa Brozek to purchase the South Austin icon.
Operating partners Brozek and Riley committed themselves to pulling the loyal customers back after the heavy construction had forced them to stay away for so long, and they did just that by keeping the feel of the restaurant intact.
By adding nightly live piano and exciting new dishes, the partners have succeeded in resurrecting the restaurant. Once the heart of Barton Springs, Romeo's is now aiming high with little doubt of exciting future accomplishments.
